Someone else’s pants
We were treated to a few Finnish traditions today… which
personally I would’ve preferred to avoid…
Anyway, we won the Grand Prix regatta with
another two wins, a second and a fifth. The breeze was incredibly
shifty with the course set so close to the shore, and an offshore
breeze blowing… crazy.
So after winning and picking up the silverware, we were thrown into
the water fully clothed… great! I can understand it in Australia,
but for an Aussie in Finland where the water is 10 degrees… it
was a bit of a shock to say the least
I managed to save my
jacket, wallet and shoes, but ended up having to walk around in
someone elses pants for the next few hours.
Thomas Johansen & Jukka
Piirainen won the 49er racing, with a very tense last race. The
series over here is pretty interesting… with 3 races in the
morning deciding who races in the final. The first five boats
qualify, then there is a repecharge final in the afternoon – with
the best 2 boats going through. The final race is final – the
winner wins the day. Johansen & Piirainen won both days… not
bad for Olympic champions I guess. It was good of them to come up
to us afterwards and comment on how good our sailing was… very
nice.
Tomorrow we train with the Finnish squad and their coach, so
hopefully we have a bit more breeze. I might also be able to get
hold of some of the video footage… maybe I can get that on the
web for anyone with the interest and time to download it
