79er Sailing

What
do you do after 6 months of sailing in Europe?

Go sailing of course!

I was in Coffs for only a few days before heading off to Mooloolaba for a week
of yachting on the new 79er.
Not a bad boat really, a bit of a cross between a yacht and a skiff
- unfortunately too much of a yacht for my liking. As we sailed
along at 17 knots (in about 15 knots of wind) I couldn’t help but
imagine how fast it would go with a huge set of wings and a couple
of guys on trapeze!

The new boat will apparently have a fancy winged canting keel, and
the moulds should be finished in a few months time.

Fun times racing with Pierre for the first time,
along with Tai, Onni, Bruce and French Mark the
psychotherapist. It was an interesting experience to have group
therapy after sailing… maybe we needed it :)

Worshipping the Kodak god

Yes, I was a tourist for another few days in Florence, joining the
hordes in queues and eating copious amounts of gelato.

I did end up going to the Uffizi, looking at one depiction of
Madonna and child after another. A few days later I lined up again
to look at the statue of David, which managed to make every other
statue look very very mundane in comparison.

But enough of that tourist stuff…

The Micheletti’s and Maffessoli’s looked after me in Bresica last
night - with one of the best Italian meals I have had… and now
its back to Australia.

Who forgot to tie the boats down?

Apparently a storm blew through Marseille this morning… and from
the looks of it did a bit of damage to the three best Americas Cup boats on earth…

That’s pretty nasty… though any moth sailor could’ve told them to
tie the boat down overnight!

Alberto & Matteo have won the Italian

Dave had his first go at crewing in a regatta, and came in 8th. Not
sure what the conditions were…
