Rohan’s been fired up by all the interweb trash talk, and has proposed a manufacturers championship of sorts
BTW – Now that we have the POM v’s Aussie Ashes, why not have a ‘Manufactures Ashes’ as well while we are at it. You could take the best five overall results of all production built boats along with the top 5 Miscellaneous/own builds just to stir things up a bit. There is nothing like some healthy competition between manufacturers to help build the class and get more Moths on the water!
Not a bad idea.
Update #1 Simon Propper has gone and donated the trophy and drafted the rules for the Aus vs GBR ashes. Good work.
- The first five boats from both countries will comprise the ‘team’
- The score used will be identical to the final regatta score after any discards
- If less than five boats compete from either country, the ‘teams’ will be made up of the number of boats from the least represented country
- The winning country may take the trophy home and get it engraved and must return it to the next Worlds
- The fifth team member from the winning team will hold the trophy for the year
- The ashes will be made from the carbon bits discarded during repairs at the 2007 Worlds. At the end of the week, we will burn all the carbon donations, put them in the urn and epoxy it shut.
Now to find those centreboard pieces for the manufacturer trophy…

Is the cup big enough to fit a complete discarded bladerider in it if required?

the biggest problem would be fitting in all the prowler gantries, foils, wing bars and spreaders that have broken over the last few years. Oh, and how many times did Scott have to repair his gantry and foils on his foiling HT? I don’t know any details about the Mistress, but i am sure it had just as many problems too.
it is said that if a moth part hasn’t broken before, then it is too heavy!
BTW – the melting point for carbon is 3650 degrees C, so that better be one hot fire!

My solid carbon HT foils never broke (or even came close), and nor did the boat extension.
Though I did sail around for a couple of months with an alloy tube gantry which had the rudder 5+ degrees off vertical.

I reckon team Chinese/McConagese in 12 months have broken at least double the gear than the Prowlers have over the last 4 years. Those one designs are always far from perfect with a rush design and no testing etc.
