I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Thanks to Rohan, John and I are going to be in a segment for a new yachting/lifestyle TV show. We’re doing a film shoot this Saturday, so surely it will rain and blow all of 3 knots.

At least it will be good chance to get some airtime for the sponsor (who just so happens to be appliancesonline.com.au if you hadn’t noticed). Though I’m not sure those arty film producers are going to like the somewhat ubiquitous signwriting on my boat. They’ll either have to put up with it or show a foiling pixellated blob.

And they’ll have no more luck with John’s boat, which will be plastered in sailingbits.com livery thanks to Donosan.

Or maybe they’ll just realize that given we’re flying around in the rain on expensive carbon toys in unflattering neoprene suits… they’ll realize that collectively we’re as mad as a cut snake… and end up filming cute kids sailing in roto-moulded fluoro optimists.

In other news… the 18 Footer JJ Giltinan is going to be on 7 at 1pm on Saturday. Hopefully the Rag will get a mention somewhere between all the talk of Seve Jarvis and footage of the red boat. If it’s any good… record it for me.

    You’re sponsored by Appliances Online???

  2. Les Says:

If they need “clean”, unsponsored footage send ‘em round to balmoral.

No sponsorship stickers for us poor old privateers.

I think Sector would look great on TV

  3. scott Says:

Yes Les, that’s a good idea… if they were shooting for the History Channel ;)

  4. Marty Says:

Zing…. Have the nerds worked out how to throw a virtual high five yet (sorry Les that was a good comeback).
I was considering sailing out of WSC on Saturday, but I don’t think I want to put on a display of how not to sail a moth!!!

  5. Les Says:

Scott - That’s the kind of response I have come to expect from you “new age”, latte sipping, blog writing, internet moth sailors.

I remember the good ‘ol days when people actually drank beer and/or bourbon at regattas and we still raced when it was windy.

Now THERE is a segment for the history channel!

  6. Greg Says:

But Les, does Scott’s new boat cost more than his car????

  7. Phil Stevo Says:

15kt SE and rain for tomorrow. Bad for filming!

Should be a good race at St George though, last Saturday of the season. Both privateers and mercenaries are welcome on Friday next week for Anzac Day Season Closing Regatta.

Greg, and your Prius would exceed the value of even the new Bladerider, breaking unwritten moth rule #2.

(For the uninformed rule #1 is that moth sailors are not obliged to help lift any boat which weighs more than the crew who sail it. Pretty well eliminates any other class)

Touche… new age, latte sipping, blog writing, moderate wind sailing, prius driving Moth sailors.

Does that mean the 18 fits rule #1 too… at 170+ kg. Just the thought of lifting it sends my back into spasms… As an 18 sailor I could even drive an X5 and still pass both rules… hmmm

  9. Pete Says:

Nah You don’t drink nearly enough rum for an 18 sailor. Bloging and mothing go hand in hand………..

  10. Les Says:

That is the number one rule I live my life by (my religion I guess) - NEVER lift a boat that weighs more than you do. You should see the look on The Taser sailors faces when they ask you to lift their boat and you say “sorry mate, its against my religion”. It must have worked because they don’t ask me anymore.

Thanks for the reminder of moth rule #1 Greg. Going back even further, I remember when I was living the true moth sailor ideal. I owned a brand new Aussie Axeman (a boat that just happens to one of Scott’s many past moths) and drove a Datsun 120Y. Boat to car value ratio at its absolute maximum. Yes, I know, I’m living in the past…..

    I can’t believe that an 18 weighs more than 170kgs! No thanks…
