Empire Building

It looks as though the Woollahra Sailing Club fleet of Moths is going to be steadily growing through the approaching season.

The fleet, which has been made up of John, Matt and myself will be adding a couple of new Bladerider owners to it’s ranks shortly, and with scheduled regular racing on Saturday’s the fleet can only continue to grow.

And who could argue against it?

We’ve got plenty of grass rigging area. We don’t need to swim and drag the boats over sand or rocks to launch. We’ve got plenty of storage space. We’ve got nice flat water in Rose Bay and nice choppy water in the Harbour. We don’t have to battle tide or sandbars. We can launch and have fair sailing in pretty much any direction of breeze. We can set full size courses. We can run and score multiple races a day. We’ve got a bid in to run the States next Easter.

And arguably we have the fastest fleet in the World.

It all sounds too easy doesn’t it.

  2. scott Says:

You pronounce it as though you have a silver spoon in your mouth…

  3. chris Says:

    haha, nice come back.

  4. dave lister Says:

    shit im on my way

  5. Diver Dan Says:

Ill shove the spoon right up ya clacker

  6. Phil Says:

Scott, if the rest of the club sails Sunday who will be running the moth races on Saturday?

This invitation might suit the apparent anti moth faction running StG SC, Dave?

  7. Kiwi Says:

And I might come and race esp if you have the states, awesome sailing from WSC, even if the cafe upstairs is over priced! You could hold the empire games, since that is what your building!

Thanks Scott, that throws a spanner in my works. I was going to quite happily sail out of Balmoral this season!
But the option of multiple races out of woollahra is very enticing.
It’s a great club - no sand, good showers, free parking, deep water, easy launching and multiple races.
Not to mention good sailors for me to try and keep up with!
I would imagine Southey will be running things on Saturday Phil.

Oh crap, I just bought a house in Sans Souci only because the club was there. I guess I have to move now.

  10. scott Says:

Bruce, you could always sell in Sans Souci and buy in Point Piper to be closer to the action.

there are a few bankers looking to offload their waterfronts at pretty good prices.

  12. Les Says:

Tempting, but not sure I could be bothered to bring my passport with me every week to get across the Harbour Bridge. Its hard enough for us born and bred Northern Beaches types to get across the Spit Bridge to get to Balmoral!

I guess I could sail around though.

    Les

PS Don’t knock sand. At Balmoral it attracts the girls in their bikini’s

  13. scott Says:

And the girls without their bikinis as the case may be… and the rock spiders… you win some you lose some.

  14. Diver Dan Says:

Rock Spider ;) so thats why Euan wants to sail out of Balmoral if he gets a moth ;)

  15. Kerem Says:

Great club & bay. Sailed there once. Loved the atmosphere. Hope to visit & sail a moth with you all next time.

Can’t help but recall it being 9′er & skiffy focused with some 18″ers parked in the lawn and carpark along with oodles of x9ers. This transformation to Moth bias might make the 2nd floor office dwellers concerned but interested in the class.

Who knows what Frank would cook with all his experience. The man knows a few things about foils and flight after all. Oh and if there is possible 2012 Olympic guts & glory in it you’ve just got Julian’s attention too… Just speculating but if & when it happens remember my name!

  16. Marty Says:

I’ll have to change my pessimistic views on sand - I hadn’t considered it’s bikini attracting properties.
Unfortuantely the grass at WSC only seems to attract pampered pooches and the presents they leave behind.
Frank is presently tinkering on a foiler - his latest HSP
The office dwellers are interested but haven’t (as far as I know) dipped a big toe in the foiling water but I suspect it’s not far off!
