Yesterday was just beautiful. 11 degrees above average for September. A 15-20 knot warm Nor-Easter blowing on the Harbour. And every man and his dog making the most of it on a Saturday afternoon.

So the traffic, and a big tide meant for some epic waves, from basically every direction. My mods were going well, with the boat handling it better than before, but still not good enough.

I blasted around with Matt testing the FX, and Marty on his boat for a couple of hours, before coming unstuck on the last downwind out near the Beashel bouy. I was going nice and fast, then comes the sickening bang and I end up underwater well infront of the bow.

I thought it could’ve been the gantry, but no. I swim back to the boat, and the mainfoil is limp, flailing about in the water alongside the boat. Not a good look.

I unplugged to avoid more damage to the hull, and tied it to the deck. But the club was now a couple of klms downwind, around a couple of nice rocky headlands. The boat didn’t sail too well downwind without a centreboard, but somehow I capsized and drifted my way into the little gap of open beach at Nielsen Park. Meanwhile Matt makes it back and gets a rubber duck to come and rescue me.

So all in all an expensive day on the water. But thems the breaks.

I was about to sell the foils, with a new set on the way shortly. But now it looks like that won’t be happening, or at least they’ll be going at just a bit of a discount.

That sucks dude. Breaking a foil is a bitch, especially when you have to sit around and wait for the replacement to be built.

Bummer. Is that at the hull exit or somewhere else?

    Sh*T!

Bad luck mate. That sucks. Hope you get back on the water soon and the rest of your boat is OK
