SIRS wrapup
Despite being only 4 days long, SIRS has been a pretty intense event for everyone involved.
The last day saw some of the best conditions, with a great NE breeze, flat water and plenty of sun.
In the light and shifty first race I split gybes with Charlie on the second downwind looking for the left hand pressure, only to be a couple of minutes early for it. That lost a bunch of ground and in the end points.
The second race was a quick 2 lapper and I trailed John home in 2nd, setting up a close finish for the event.
And in the last race I had a port starboard crash tack and capsize with Bora which after the resulting 360 cost lots of time and distance. I crossed the line in 7th but close to the rest. The last couple of races were some of the tightest we’ve had.
So all in all a good regatta. Tough but good. Charlie took 1st with plenty of smarts on the Harbour. I finished 2nd and Bora took 3rd. If not for his DNFs Bora would’ve owned the regatta, but as they say, to finish first first you have to finish (inside the time limit).
John found form at the end to take 5th place behind Hans. He’ll be on the pace when his new VRX arrives in a week or so.
We saw 6 different race winners across the 10 heats, so the Nationals are shaping up to be an even more competitive event with Arnoud, Amac, Simon and Luka in attendence.
In terms of my performance, I’m happy. Despite finishing further back in the last two days, I felt I got things going progressively faster and have a reasonable idea how to get a bit more out of the boat in the next 5 weeks. Hopefully that all goes to plan.

And a huge thanks to all the competitors for turning up and supporting the regatta, especially the guys from overseas who came so far to race!

Nothin wrong with the boat Diver Dan. Fastest boat in the world with Rohans 27 knots some years ago and Ben Crockers Prowler was fastest in the Mazda speed trial too!

After talking to amac he claims you might have had a problem in the past, being either slightly color blind or counting to 4 too!!!

I must have a short term memory too, since I have no idea what you’re talking about.

maybe amac has a bad memory, was telling me that you had either gone to wrong marks in the past or miscounted laps.
