Numbers game
50 days left to go til the Moth Worlds (not that I’m counting). But only 26 entries registered so far. 4 Australians, 3 Europeans, 3 from Asia, 14 from the USA.
I’m sure there will be more. Maybe the GFC is having it’s impact on the Mothosphere?
In the meantime the 29ers have 180 registered for their Worlds at Garda in late July. Not a bad effort. I’d expect they’ll top 200. It would almost be worth running a practice race with every boat on the startline just for the photo opportunity.
I’ll finally be stepping down from the 29er World Exec at the AGM in Garda after some 5 years. Given I somehow picked up IMCA World and IMCA Australia, I think I’ve got enough to do.

There is at least one more Assassin going who’s not registered, so hopefully there’s heaps more that haven’t got around to registering yet.

There are a good handful of people I know for sure are coming but have not yet registered but I am hoping its the usual Moth class apathy. It seems most of Europe and the UK are seeing this as a break year after so many events in Europe, including the Europeans just a month or so before (!!). Taking the general economic situation into account we are planning on 50-60 boats but doing everything we can to get more.
If you are hoping to come but have issues with shipping/getting a boat etc, feel free to send me an e-mail and we will do what we can to help out. nige at iointegration.com
Early registration discount ends in 2 weeks!

Moths were so last year

Last year you were fretting about there being only 10 entries so 26 is good going!

Where is the form guide?

Form guide?
I have been wondering who I will nominate for #1. Any suggestions?

I think the promise of 4 worlds outside Europe in 3 years is a bit much for some… Realise its hard for someone wherever they are, but having so many in such a short space of time is a big burden on cash regardless of financial climate.
Maybe have the worlds every two years and focus more on a bigger event? This would leave room for the Europeans on the off year

@Cookie
Isn’t it 3 worlds in 2 years outside Europe?
2012 should be back in that part of the World I’d imagine. Maybe Garda again? Malcesine anyone?
Personally I think it should be an 18 month rotation, not the 9 months we’re seeing now. But when we decided on ‘09, ‘10, ‘11 the future was bright and there wasn’t too much concern if not everyone could make every event. Things might’ve changed in the last 12 months.

Cookie,
Would the Euros honestly be going to the US in numbers if the worlds were every 2 years? I doubt it.
Your new boat looks great! Congrats on recent results.

I vote for Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni. The “Flying” moth would look great there

I was under the impression that we were going to NZ after AUS? I’m not in the official loop so this could be crack-smoking of the highest degree on my part!
I would be at the Gorge if Dubai wasn’t happening and there are others in the same camp over here… My only question is whether I can stretch to Dubai and Aus! The Gorge followed by Aus was the team GB decision but it all went a bit squiffy after that in the AGM at Weymouth and we ended up with all three.
Thanks for the comments John, pretty chuffed with how it’s all going so far…

If the moth is lucky enough to have the worlds in NZ in 2012 (the worlds best sailing spot) then it will be the cheapest worlds ever…our dollar is worth shit. (1 euro = $2.17NZD). Cleanest water, strongest breezes, nicest beach, cheap accommodation what more could you want. and cheap air freight. Takapuna has hosted heaps of big successful worlds.

Darren you forgot about all the easy girls “racer chasers” that just hang out on the beach all day waiting for the sailors to come in, to personally wash the sailors boats in their bikini’s….

NZ the best place to sail in the world? I notice that air and sea temperature as well as precipitation did not rate a mention in your “sales pitch”.
Sailing in NZ is like going for the All Blacks. Has its good parts but at the end of the day they just don’t aim up. Go Le Blue

Mate Warm as in kiwi land – just give us enough warning so we can move our sheep off the beach and rigging area
All Blacks will struggle with the best coach from New Zealand coaching the Wallabies

I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE THE FLYING MOTHS TO MY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY FOR 2012. WE CAN DO EVENT THAT RIVALS LONDON OLYMPICS.
YOU CHOOSE, BEAUTIFUL GULF OR WONDERFUL CASPIAN SEA.

Why not go somewhere exotic like Boracay in the Philippines. That place is awesome during the monsoon with 18-20+ knots (Dec to Mar). And the waves aren’t too big either. And Boracay known to be one of the best beaches in the world.

Well thanks to Scott’s post, reminding me to kick of a US/UK/SA spamming session, we have three more entries in one day. With 49 days left, by my calculations we will have about 170 boats! Biggest fleet ever!
