Higher and faster

At least that’s the plan.

I thought it would be pretty tricky to put an on-the-fly height adjuster system in the boat in time for the Worlds, but thanks to my new best mate Arnaud and the wonders of Swiss engineering, I have one awesome system rigged and ready to go.

Hopefully it doesn’t take a few months to learn how to use it. And hopefully it works.

Maybe it will make no difference, but there’s nothing quite like making a major boat change a few days out from the Worlds.

New ride height adjustment system

But at least I wont be alone. Arnaud added the string to make his work, Mark put in an express order for everything they’ve got in Switzerland, and Nathan is adding one to his boat tomorrow after shuffling turns on and off at the top and bottom of the course all day.

It was another windy day on the Gorge today. Nathan, Chris, Arnaud and I went early to try and get some time in before the breeze went nuclear again.

We had a few good runs up and down the course, with Arnaud and I blasting Nathan for speed through the water, but Nath playing to his strengths and running high and slow to stay in the pressure and more often than not make better VMG up the work. My tacks are improving thankfully, but the flu is slowing me down.

The rest of the day was spent adapting the new control system to the boat, searching for bits and pieces to make it all happen.

Late in the day, Rohan, Bora and George ventured out in the fresh stuff, with a bunch more heading out later again when the breeze started to die further.

Training group late in the day

The strong winds are already taking their toll on the gear. No surprises in a Moth fleet. Chris tore through the head webbing on his sail. Nathan cracked his mast stump. Mikis and Rohan broke their vangs, as I did this morning (but it held together), and Bora yesterday. Charlie lost his rudder foil but swam back to get it. George lost his rig when the forestay fitting came out of the hull, and Joe appeared to brake his new mainfoil after breaking his gantry yesterday.

A bit of a nasty toll given there’s still 6 days to go before the regatta starts.

Nationals start in 2 days.
