Grinning like an idiot

That’s apparently what I looked like when I got back in this morning. Maybe.

My flight control system works well. No dramas. Just pull the string and fly higher. Or lower. Beautiful. If only I knew which string to pull and when.

It was a longish day on the water, with an early start to make the most of the 20-25 knot morning breeze before it clicked over to 30+ at midday.

I sailed against Nathan and a bunch of other boats, sticking with Nath most of the way but quietly waiting for him to eat it on the downwinds. And he did. Maybe that’s why I was smiling. We even agreed to gybe down the bumpy side of the track just for practice, and that time he didn’t make the bottom mark.

Anyway, I can’t gloat too much. His bellcrank had come loose in the board and his control just wasn’t working. But it was funny while it lasted.

We came back to the club at 5pm when the wind was starting to become manageable and then sailed til about 8.

Nathan promptly blew me away with a working foil. My moment of glory has been shortlived.

Tomorrow the Nationals start, with a scheduled start time of 12. Given the wind has been completely unsailable at 12 the last few days, tomorrow is not so promising. We may be waiting til 5 before we start getting races away.

But it’s not normally like this.
